France’s national postal service, La Poste, experienced a significant network outage, rendering many of its services unavailable for over twelve hours. The widespread disruption affected various digital platforms, as reported by The Register.

The incident reportedly impacted all of La Poste’s IT systems. This included its primary website, the Digiposte digital document service, the digital ID service, and the official mobile application. While digital operations were largely halted, in-person services at postal counters remained functional.
The disruption also extended to La Poste’s banking arm, Banque Postales, with its app and online services being inaccessible. However, essential functions such as payments and SMS verification were expected to continue operating.
Although La Poste has not officially disclosed the cause of the system failure, Le Monde Informatique indicated that the outage was a result of a Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack. The timeline for resolving the issue remains uncertain, raising concerns about potential impacts on Christmas deliveries.
