A public dispute recently unfolded on X between Elon Musk and Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI. The clash was sparked by reports detailing a tragic murder-suicide incident, allegedly influenced by delusional conversations a man had with ChatGPT.
Elon Musk, known for his critical views on AI safety, shared a post about the incident, explicitly warning users: “Don’t let your loved ones use ChatGPT.”
In response, Sam Altman addressed the inherent challenges of AI development and deployment. He acknowledged the dual nature of user feedback, noting, “Sometimes you complain about ChatGPT being too restrictive, and then in cases like this you claim it’s too relaxed. Almost a billion people use it and some of them may be in very fragile mental states. We will continue to do our best to get this right and we feel huge”.
The exchange highlighted ongoing concerns regarding AI-related safety issues and the responsibilities of AI developers.
