Firefox users globally frequently seek assistance from Mozilla Support (SUMO) for questions, issues, or general inquiries. This platform is community-powered, with contributors providing answers and support to help users.
This global community was recently celebrated with Ask-A-Fox, a weeklong virtual event held last month. The event brought together long-time contributors, newcomers, and Mozilla staff, aiming to foster connections, share tips, and address user questions across different time zones.
Contributor appreciation, AMAs and an emoji hunt
During a lively week, contributors for Firefox and Thunderbird collaborated actively. Reply rates increased significantly, response times decreased, and the forums showed renewed energy. A key outcome was the enhanced sense of connection among participants.
Live Ask Me Anything (AMA) sessions were held with Mozilla’s
,
, and
teams. A playful 🦊 + ⚡ emoji hunt was also organized through the Knowledge Base.
“That AMA was really interesting,” said longtime Firefox contributor Paul. “I learned a lot and I recommend those that could not watch it live catch the recording as I am sure it will be very useful in helping users in SUMO.”
Ask-A-Fox served as a celebration of individuals, including long-time contributors, new participants, and everyone in between. Noteworthy contributors included:
- Firefox Desktop (including Enterprise) Paul, Denyshon, Jonz4SUSE, @next, jscher2000
- Firefox for Android Paul, TyDraniu, GerardoPcp04, Mad_Maks, sjohnn
- Firefox for iOS Paul, Simon.c.lord, TyDraniu, Mad_Maks, Mozilla-assistent
- Thunderbird (including Android) Davidsk, Sfhowes, Mozilla98, MattAuSupport, Christ1
Newcomers mozilla98, starretreat, sjohnn, Vexi, Mark, Mapenzi, cartdaniel437, hariiee1277, and thisisharsh7 also made a big impact.
New contributor Shirmaya John said, “I love helping people, and I’m passionate about computers, so assisting with bugs or other tech issues really makes my day. I’m excited to grow here!”
Contributor Vincent received the Staff Award for submitting the highest number of replies during the week.
“Ask a Fox highlights the incredible collaborative spirit of the community. It serves as a reminder of what can be achieved when individuals unite around a shared goal,” stated Kiki Kelimutu, a senior community manager at Mozilla.
Firefox has been powered by community from the start
Genuine connection is a driving force behind Mozilla’s efforts. Community members do more than just answer questions; they build relationships, learn collaboratively, and support each other with authenticity and care.
Mozilla is built by individuals who advocate for an open and accessible internet for everyone, and its community is central to this vision. What began in 2007, finding its online home in 2010 at support.mozilla.org, has evolved into a global network where contributors assist millions of Firefox users in finding answers, sharing solutions, and continuing their Firefox experience.
Each answered question not only assists a user but also contributes to improving Firefox. By highlighting real issues and feedback, the community influences product development and helps maintain a stronger web for all.
Join the next Ask-A-Fox
Ask-A-Fox celebrates what makes Mozilla unique: its people.
Lasting community engagement stems not from metrics, but from treating contributors as individuals who bring their unique stories, skills, and dedication.
When Mozillians come together to share knowledge, laughter or even a few emojis, the result is more than faster replies. It’s a connection.
Two more Ask-A-Fox events are already planned for next year, continuing the work of building communities that make the web more open and welcoming.
Individuals interested in contributing to a more human web can join. Every answer, conversation, and connection helps Firefox thrive.
