The new GitHub Issues semantic search will soon be available in public preview on the issues dashboard. This feature enables users to locate relevant issues across various repositories using natural language queries.
This update builds upon the enhanced search capabilities introduced in January for the issues index. Following positive community feedback, the same improved search experience is now being extended to the dashboard.
Important Considerations:
- For searches not restricted to a specific repository, semantic search functionality is limited to the top 100 repositories.
- Lexical search is utilized for filter-only searches and exact-match queries (e.g., those using quotation marks).
- A preview banner will appear on the issues dashboard, offering an option to revert to the classic search experience.
Feedback can be provided in the GitHub Community.
Additional Enhancements to GitHub Issues and Projects
- Label and milestone pickers no longer display “Create new label/milestone” options for users who can apply labels but lack creation permissions.
- Clicking Create sub-issue now provides immediate feedback with a loading state while the form loads.
- A bug in GitHub Projects has been resolved where assigning a third-party agent to an issue did not instantly trigger the agent to begin work. Agents will now commence work as expected upon assignment.
- To enhance site-wide page load times, GitHub Projects will no longer show a count in the top navigation bar when browsing a repository.
