The demand for air fryers in Bangladesh is experiencing a notable rise. This surge is attributed to the ongoing cooking gas shortages and increasing prices of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) that households are currently facing. This electric kitchen appliance is now viewed as a practical and essential tool for families seeking dependable methods for daily meal preparation, moving beyond its perception as a mere optional gadget.

This trend signifies a broader transition towards electric cooking solutions, driven by the inconsistent gas supply across various regions of the country. Households are progressively adapting their kitchens to reduce their dependence on gas, opting for electricity to fulfill their routine cooking requirements.

Gas Shortages Drive Shift to Electric Cooking

Bangladesh has been grappling with residential gas supply issues for several years. New constructions in urban centers like Dhaka and other major cities often lack pipeline gas connections, while numerous apartments in older buildings also remain unlinked to the gas network. Even in areas with gas supply, the pressure is frequently insufficient for consistent cooking.

Consequently, households frequently encounter low gas pressure or complete outages, complicating daily cooking routines. Morning and evening meal preparations are particularly impacted, leading to significant inconvenience for families. Many residents express that they can no longer rely on gas for their everyday cooking needs.

LPG Price Increases and Supply Challenges

Millions of households have turned to LPG cylinders as a solution to gas shortages. Nevertheless, the LPG market has recently experienced frequent supply interruptions and price escalations. These factors have rendered cooking fuel both expensive and unreliable.

Families often report challenges in refilling gas cylinders promptly, particularly during periods of high demand. Some households maintain spare cylinders to prevent running out, which contributes to their overall expenses. The increasing costs have prompted consumers to seek more manageable cooking alternatives.

Retailers Note Surge in Air Fryer Sales Before Ramadan

Retailers indicate a rise in demand for electric cooking appliances, with air fryers at the forefront. Sales data from Star Tech, a prominent electronics and appliance retailer, shows that air fryer sales increased by approximately 40 percent in the last quarter.

This increase precedes Ramadan, a time when cooking requirements nationwide typically escalate. Many households strategically plan their appliance purchases before the holy month. The strongest sales growth has been observed in urban centers, though smaller cities also demonstrate consistent demand.

To address the expanding demand, Star Tech has broadened its selection of air fryers, featuring both international and local brands. Various air fryer models from well-known manufacturers such as Philips, Panasonic, Xiaomi, Walton, Singer, and Sharp are offered at competitive prices through Star Tech’s retail and online channels.

The retailer reports robust sales across various price points, indicating broad consumer interest.

Consumers are increasingly prioritizing product quality, warranties, and after-sales support. Many purchasers opt for official products to mitigate potential issues with durability and performance. Through nationwide delivery and customer assistance, Star Tech aims to assist households in adapting to the current energy challenges.

Practical Alternative for Traditional Ramadan Dishes

During Ramadan, families traditionally prepare a diverse array of fried foods for iftar, such as samosas, piyaju, beguni, and jilapi. Preparing these dishes without a consistent gas supply can prove difficult, particularly when cooking for many people.

Air fryers enable households to prepare many of these foods using only electricity. Users report that these appliances contribute to consistent cooking outcomes and shorten preparation times. Given that electricity is often more reliable than gas in numerous regions, families can cook without relying on LPG deliveries.

    Health Benefits Enhance Appeal

Health considerations are also driving the adoption of air fryers among Bangladeshi households. Conventional frying methods necessitate substantial quantities of oil, whereas air fryers utilize hot air circulation, potentially reducing oil consumption by up to 80 percent.

According to health experts, reduced oil intake can contribute to lowering the risk of heart disease and obesity. Many families are increasingly conscious of diet-related health concerns, leading to a growing preference for healthier cooking methods alongside convenience.

Evolving Consumer Behavior in the Home Appliance Market

The shift towards electric cooking extends beyond air fryers. Electric kettles, rice cookers, toasters, and induction cookers are now prevalent in numerous urban residences. These kitchen appliances collectively aid in diminishing reliance on gas for routine cooking activities.

Market analysts suggest that consumers are progressively perceiving electric appliances as essential household items, rather than mere luxury goods.

In Bangladesh, air fryer prices typically range from Tk 7,500 to Tk 25,000, varying based on brand and features. Buyers commonly evaluate price, capacity, and warranty prior to making a purchase.

Mid-range models continue to be the preferred option for general household use.
