Developing large-scale websites with extensive codebases often reveals the inherent challenges of managing CSS. To address these issues, StyleX was open-sourced as a solution for scalable CSS. This tool merges the developer-friendly aspects of CSS-in-JS with the efficiency of static CSS. It facilitates atomic styling for components, reduces bundle size through definition deduplication, and offers a straightforward API for developers.
StyleX has been adopted as a standard by companies such as Figma and Snowflake. It also serves as the primary styling system across major platforms including Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger, and Threads.
A recent episode of the Meta Tech Podcast features Melissa, a software engineer and StyleX maintainer. During the discussion, Pascal Hartig explores StyleX’s origins, the impact of open source on its development, and the experiences of collaborating with large companies that have integrated StyleX.
